Cleared As Filed
IFR Scenario Training — Beta Release
Early Access
Cleared As Filed is a browser-based ATC and narration engine that runs alongside your flight simulator. Each scenario is a scripted, interactive IFR flight — complete with real ATC communications, weather, routing, and decision points built in by a CFI with 30+ years of GA and airline experience. Designed for instrument-rated pilots and those actively in IFR training.
01 What You Need

Nothing to download or install. Open the scenario link in any browser while your simulator is running. The window does not need to be full screen — it works in a small corner of your display or on a second monitor.

You must be able to see and hear it while flying. Set your PC audio output to whatever you normally use for your aircraft comm radios.

02 The Preflight Screen

When you open the link you land on the preflight screen. This contains your flight plan, weather package, and a recorded CFI briefing for the flight.

Spend time here the same way you would before a real IFR flight. The information in this brief is directly relevant to decisions you will face in the air.

03 Simulator Setup

Tap Simulator Setup at the bottom of the preflight screen. Choose your platform — MSFS or X-Plane — and follow the instructions to spawn your aircraft in the correct location with the correct weather.

X-Plane users: a downloadable saved scenario file is available that loads your aircraft and weather automatically. Instructions are on the setup screen.

04 Starting the Scenario

Once your sim is set up and you are in the aircraft, press Play. Read the button text carefully — it tells you the exact condition that should be true before you click. For example: Click after calling for IFR clearance.

Make that call first, then press Play. From there ATC takes over.

05 Flying the Scenario

ATC communicates with you as it would in real life. The program cannot hear you — but treat every transmission as real. Give your readbacks, follow your clearances, and stay ahead of the airplane. Some commands play automatically based on timing. Others pause and wait for your input. Glance at the browser occasionally — if it needs something from you the button will tell you exactly when to click.

06 Tips & Controls
Don't Pause Your Sim

Many segments are time-based. Pausing the sim will pull you out of sync with the ATC script.

Use Recommended Aircraft

Timing is built around known airspeeds. Use the specified aircraft or something close in cruise speed.

Say Again Button

Missed a transmission? Hit Say Again to replay the last ATC call without advancing the scenario.

Back & Forward

Out of sync or clicked too early? Use the back and forward buttons to realign yourself with the script.

Skip Button

A skip button is available to advance past a line if needed during testing or if a timing issue occurs.

End of Flight

A short CFI debrief plays at the end summarizing what the scenario tested. Worth listening to before closing.
